Invented by Joseph Pilates to assist injured dancers, Pilates is the perfect form of exercise for those looking to improve posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility.  Pilates develops whole body strength and flexibility, as it emphasizes your body’s core — the abdomen, oblique muscles, lower back, inner and outer thighs and butt. Pilates also develops muscular endurance, coordination, balance, and good posture — with a much lower chance of injury than with other forms of exercise. The discipline emphasizes correct form instead of going for the burn.

Pilates moves require you to engage almost your entire body. Its focus on posture and body mechanics teaches you to think about how you use your muscles during your workout so you use them better in daily life. As well as getting fit and toning, you stand and sit taller and walk more gracefully.
